Miraculous Ladybug Season 2 Episode 5 Riposte
Marinette hopes to join Armand D'Argencourt's swordsmanship school. Although Marinette is worried and nervous, Tikki assures her that she will do a good job. Marinette then clumsily knocks over several helmets, though she eventually finds one her size. At the fencing field, D'Argencourt assigns the new recruits to fence with the old ones to see who is capable of filling the single vacancy. Marinette is paired with Adrien who helps teach her some techniques. Adrien also explains that in fencing, whoever touches the opponent first does not necessarily win the point.
A new swordsman then arrives and demands to be enrolled in the class. D'Argencourt tells the new student that only the best can enter his school, and the challenger claims that he was the best everywhere they were. D'Argencourt tells the student that in order to be accepted, he must defeat one of the other students, and the swordsman immediately asks who is the best swordsman in the class. The other students choose Adrien. As he and the new student take their stances, Marinette laments that the latter will get a spot on the fencing team due to "that guy's" apparent skills, though another student tells her that the new challenger must defeat Adrien first.
Adrien and the new student duel, however, D'Argencourt calls abstinence as he is unable to decide who is the winner. The new student then suggests that he and Adrien "do it the old fashioned way" so that they have more freedom in their movements, to which Adrien agrees. Marinette asks how they will be able to tell who will strike first, and one of the other students tells her that they have to watch very carefully. Adrien and the new student fight, fighting up the stairs as the rest of the class follows, while Marinette walks up another flight of stairs as she can't see the fight. Adrien continues to climb the stairs and the swordsman class follows him, stomping on D'Argencourt. The fight is taken to the library, where Adrien and the new student knock a book cart down the stairs, scaring the class and running over D'Argencourt, leaving Marinette as the only person watching the battle. As the final blows are dealt, the new student and injured D'Argencourt turn to Marinette and ask who struck first, and she tentatively guesses that it was Adrien. With that, D'Argencourt declares Adrien the winner, and the new student, disappointed at his failure, shakes hands with Adrien and exits the building, plunging his saber into the ground.
Believing that the new student struck first, Adrien runs outside to offer them revenge. Adrien confronts the student in front of their car, who then takes off their helmet and reveals that she is a girl. Adrien offers her revenge, but the students decline, saying there are no second chances in her family, and leave. Adrien then gets into the car and tells his bodyguard to follow the student. As this happens, Marinette sees the akuma and transforms into Ladybug to capture her.
The student leaves a note for her mother in the car, regretfully announcing that she has lost and will not be entering D'Argencourt's school. He then looks at his ring, which the akuma then places inside. Hawk Moth then offers her a chance to become the best swordswoman again in exchange for Ladybug and Cat Miraculouses, turning her into Riposte. Riposte then cuts through the roof of his car and jumps into the air.
Meanwhile, Adrien researches the new student on his phone while Plagg watches and learns that she is the only child of a prestigious fencing family, her mother and father both world champions. Riposte then falls from the sky and splits Adrien's car in half. Riposte tells Adrien that she accepts his offer of revenge, though he refuses to fight her in her current form. Before she can attack, Hawk Moth stops Riposte and tells her that she must take Ladybug and Cat Miraculous first. Riposte agrees and decides to wait for Ladybug and Cat Noir to show up. Spurred on, Ladybug arrives and uses her yo-ya to grab Riposte's sword, but is surprised to find it fused to her hand. Riposte attacks Ladybug with a flurry of sword strikes that Ladybug blocks and Adrien throws Ladybug's student's discarded saber. Even with the saber, Ladybug finds herself outmatched by Riposte, who knocks her to the ground and tries to punch her. Adrien saves Ladybug before Riposte's strike can land, though he sprains his left ankle in the process.
Ladybug and Adrien then climb to the roof and hide behind the chimney. Ladybug says that it will be hard to fight Riposte and watch over Adrien and calls out to Cat Noir who doesn't respond, Adrien suggests that he might be busy. Riposte destroys the chimney and tries to talk things out with her, though she claims the damage has already been done and attacks. Ladybug fights Riposte and buries her in a pile of rubble while Adrien limps away and hides. He tries to transform, but Ladybug interrupts him and takes them to find a safe haven. As this happens, Riposte breaks free.
Ladybug takes Adrien to the Louvre and hides him in a sarcophagus after getting the citizens to walk away from the area peacefully. Riposte soon catches up to them, breaking into the Louvre and demanding that Ladybug tell her where Adrien is. He refuses and the two begin to argue. Adrien uses his alone time to transform into Cat Noir, however he finds that his ankle is still injured. Riposte tries to hit Ladybug, only for Cat Noir to block her sword with his staff. They managed to corner Riposte, but she knocked Cat Noir back (inadvertently injuring his sprained ankle) and chased Ladybug out of the room, which she then locked using the security system. Riposte chases after her as Cat Noir uses his Cataclysm to destroy the bars.
Upon entering the Egyptian exhibit, Riposte realizes that Adrien is inside the sarcophagus and destroys it. To both Ladybug and Riposte's surprise, it is not inside the sarcophagus. Ladybug seals off the room as Cat Noir enters and the two continue to fight Riposte. Ladybug then uses her Lucky Charm, receiving the radiator and realizing that the akuma is inside Riposte's sword. Using her Lucky Vision, Ladybug notices Cat Noir's belt, Ripostein's sword, and the radiator and devises a plan. She and Cat Noir tie a belt to Riposte's sword as he puts it through the radiator and use the power of the object to break the sword.
