Miraculous Ladybug Season 1 Episode 14 Kungfood
Marinette is at her house waiting for her mother’s uncle, Wang Cheng, to arrive. Wang is Chinese, so Marinette uses an app on her phone to help her with pronunciation. She has a bouquet of flowers for him, but she’s worried they might not be good enough. It turns out that Wang is a chef with a worldwide reputation and is in Paris for a cooking competition called “The World’s Greatest Chef”.
When Wang arrives, Marinette rushes to the door and tries to greet him in Chinese, but fails. She presents him with a bouquet (from which he begins to pluck the petals) while she uses the phone to translate the greeting for her. The phone does this, but also translates (and repeats) the “Ugh, that’s so lame!” that Marinette said right after. After Marinette manages to silence the phone and invite her uncle inside, Marinette calls Alye to ask for help. Alya calms her down and says she has an idea, then hangs up. A few minutes later, Adrien arrives at the door. After his initial surprised reaction, Marinette asks him what he’s doing there. Adrien explains that Alya called him and asked him to act as an interpreter because he can speak Chinese. Marinette asks where Alya is and Alya immediately texts her that Marinette now owes her.
Wang, Marinette and Adrien then take Adrien’s limo to Le Grand Paris where the competition will be held. As Adrien and Cheng Shifu converse in Chinese, Wang reveals that he knows a little of their language, but is a very poor speaker.
Once he arrives, the mayor greets Wang warmly, and TV host Alec Cataldi asks him what kind of food he will prepare. Wang replies, “Heavenly soup.” After the conversation, Wang starts cooking and leaves Adrien alone. Marinette takes the opportunity to apologize to him as the fact that her uncle spoke their language meant she didn’t need an interpreter after all. Adrien accepts the apology and even thanks her for giving him the opportunity to practice his Chinese. Adrien also says that he is honored to have met Wang because he is a “shifu” which means “master”.
Chloé soon shows up and starts criticizing Cheng Shifu’s decision to make soup instead of sushi like everyone else. Adrien replies that Cheng Shifu is Chinese and that sushi is Japanese food, but Chloé brushes him off. She then reveals that she is a member of the competition’s judging panel and states that she will refuse to give a high vote for Wang’s dish. So Marinette steps up and tells Chloé that she has no taste at all and that Cheng Shifu doesn’t need Chloé’s vote because all the other judges will love his food. An angry Chloé storms off. Adrien then praises Marinette for defending her uncle and says he would be proud if he was there. However, Marinette replies that she’s not so sure and that she’s worried that her uncle might not like her since he even destroyed the bouquet she prepared for him. Adrien reassures her, saying that Cheng Shifu told him that he would use the flowers in the soup and that he is always happy when surprising ingredients come into his life. Adrien suggests that Wang showed Marinette his respect in his own way.
Angered by Marinette’s previous statements to her, Chloé bursts into the kitchen where Wang is preparing food for the jury and tells him that Marinette is outside and wants to talk to him. Once Wang leaves the kitchen, Chloé mixes some random ingredients into the soup to ruin the taste and get a negative response from the judges. Wang rented the kitchen and said that Marinette wasn’t there, but Chloé brushed him off saying that she “doesn’t speak Japanese”, which confused Wang.
Five members of the jury are also introduced: André Bourgeois, Chloé, Jagged Stone, Marlena Césaire and Alec. When Wang presents the sabotaged meal to the judges during the live broadcast, they all react in disgust and give him scores that Alec says are the lowest scores he’s ever seen on the show. Marinette apologizes to Wang for provoking Chloé and causing this, but Wang leaves, embarrassed by his loss.
Sensing Cheng Shifu’s frustration, Hawk Moth sends an akuma after him. Wang realizes that Marinette is right about Chloé and the akuma has his chef’s hat. Hawk Moth offers Wang a chance to become the greatest chef in the world and get revenge on Chloé, turning him into Kung Food. The judges who tasted his dish earlier come under his control and he makes them grab Chloé. They then pour indestructible caramel over the entire building and trap Adrien and Marinette inside.
Marinette realizes that Kung Food is actually Wang. Meanwhile, the brainwashed judges are preparing a huge pot of soup in the rooftop pool with Chloé suspended above it. Marinette and Adrien transform into their respective superhero forms; meet each other in the hall; and they run to the elevator to go to the roof, but they are followed by a flying onion-shaped security camera that allows Kung Food to see what they are doing. After asking Hawk Moth about the two superheroes, Kung Food decides to cook Ladybug and Cat Noir in the soup as well and sends Jagged Stone to go capture them. Kung Food reveals to Chloé that it will also be cooked in soup.
Inside, Cat Noir is having trouble opening the elevator doors. Kung Food appears on the monitor to reveal his plan. The elevator doors open to reveal Jagged Stone wielding a sword made entirely of seafood. Ladybug and Cat Noir easily defeat Jagged Stone by locking him in a closet and taking the elevator up.
Realizing that the heroes have defeated Jagged Stone, Kung Food sends André Bourgeois to fight them. When the elevator stops, the Mayor appears in front of Ladybug and Cat Noir, holding a string of sausages and potatoes. Before Ladybug and/or Cat Noir attack him, he attacks with a string and manages to restrain Cat Noir, but before he can grab Cat Noir’s Miraculous, Ladybug tricks him into copying her yo-yo movements with her string, causing accidentally brought down the chandelier on himself. A fallen chandelier creates a hole in the ceiling that Ladybug and Cat Noir use to climb up a floor.
Kung Food then orders Alec and Mrs. Césaire to attack the heroes. The two meet up with the heroes and attack with a crossbow that shoots exploding smelly cheese bombs and a bow that shoots arrows at the pie. After the fight is won, Ladybug and Cat Noir take the elevator to the roof and save Chloé from being cooked alive.
