Miraculous Ladybug Season 1 Episode 3 The Pharaoh

Marinette follows Alya’s new blog. Alya follows Ladybug as she drives by, hanging from a helicopter, dropping a history book in the process. Alya picks it up, identifying it as a 10th grade history book, announcing her belief that Ladybug’s secret identity may be a female student.

Marinette panics because Alya will know something is up when she asks to borrow the history book. Tikki tells her that what is done is done; that he can only look forward; and that if he wants to keep his identity a secret, he needs to get the book back from Alya. Tikki then types into Marinette’s computer and pulls up a website about the Pharaoh Tutankhamun exhibit at the Louvre. Tikki urges Marinette to invite Alya to the museum and let her bring the book with her. Marinette is skeptical, not understanding what King Tut has to do with Ladybug, but Tikki promises that the trip will be worth it.

Marinette ends up telling Alya that she found something about Ladybug in the King Tut exhibit, so they go to the Louvre. Alya excitedly talks about how close she is to finding out Ladybug’s identity because their school is the only one that uses that particular history book and there are only 43 girls in their class besides herself. Marinette tries to remove herself from the suspect list, but Alya points out that Marinette had to borrow her textbook yesterday. A panicked Marinette apologizes for forgetting her own book at home and that Alya knows how she always loses or forgets things. Alya just laughs and says she was just kidding. Marinette will be off the suspect list when she brings her book to school.

When the girls get to the King Tut exhibit, a young man pushes past them and drops a stack of papers and a necklace, which thankfully doesn’t break. He introduces himself as Jalil Kubdel, the older brother of their classmate Alix, before running off to greet his father, Mr. Alim Kubdel. Shrugging off his strange behavior, Alya turns back to Marinette and asks why she brought her here and what it has to do with Ladybug. Marinette tries to stop and Tikki points her to a papyrus scroll on the wall in the corner. Unfortunately, the scroll is covered in hieroglyphics without translation. Marinette tries to find something relevant to Ladybug before Alya loses interest.

In his room, Adrien is on Ladyblog watching a video of Alya finding the history book. He also wonders if Ladybug goes to his school. Plagg doesn’t understand why people crush each other instead of cheese. Adrien replies that girls smell better than cheese, much to Plagg’s annoyance.

Meanwhile, Jalil and Mr. Kubdel join Marinette and Alya in front of the scroll as Jalil explains the pictures on the scroll. He identifies the man holding the scepter as Pharaoh Tutankhamun I and the woman next to him as Princess Nefertiti with a hundred mummies surrounding them. The princess died before the pharaoh and became the sun god Ra’s wife in the afterlife. Mr. Kubdel notes that he already knows all this since he organized this exhibition. Jalil then claims to have deciphered the hieroglyphs, believing that the images on the scroll depict a resurrection ceremony in which the pharaoh attempted to bring his princess back from the afterlife, and that the scroll contains a spell to bring people back from the dead.

Marinette notes that Jalil, like Alya, is prone to jumping to conclusions. Likewise, Mr. Kubdel is not convinced and warns Jalil that everything written in the scroll is a legend and cannot be interpreted so literally. Insisting that he is right, Jalil proposes to prove his theory by using the pharaoh’s scepter – on a display nearby – and reading the spell from the scroll. Losing his temper, Mr. Kubdel yells at Jalil for treating the scepter like a toy instead of a valuable historical artifact. He leaves and tells Jalil to stop his wild theories and start focusing on the real world. Sensing Jalil’s despondency in his lair, Hawk Moth sends akuma to him.

As Marinette stands, Alya gets bored and pulls a book out of her bag. Before she can open it, Marinette jumps in and puts the book down, insisting that she found something about Ladybug. Outside the museum, the Akuma finds Jalil and lands on the pendant around his neck, transforming him into a pharaoh and giving him the ability to harness the powers of the ancient Egyptian gods.

Transformed into Thoth, The Pharaoh creates bubbles and traps several museum visitors and security inside them, slowing down their perception of time. As Alya and Marinette hide behind some displays, the history book falls out of Alya’s hands. Alya starts broadcasting everything live using her cell phone while Marinette sneaks away and transforms into Ladybug. Back home, Adrien watches Aly’s feeding and transforms into Cat Noir when he sees the Pharaoh stealing the scroll and scepter.

Ladybug dives into an Egyptian exhibit room when the museum’s security door falls down, trapping her, Pharaoh, and Alya. She tries to fight the pharaoh, but he grabs her by the yo-yo and knocks her into a wall. He then transforms into Sekhmet and uses his increased strength to rip open the bars of the security door. Cat Noir arrives, but the Pharaoh easily defeats him by throwing him into the sarcophagus. He then notices Alya hiding behind a display case and kidnaps her, taking the scroll and scepter and pulling the bars back into place behind her.
