Miraculous Ladybug Season 5 Episode 19 Pretension Synopsis:
The episode begins with Tatsu telling Kagami his schedule while going to his fencing class. At the same time, Adrien is talking to Marinette over the phone. She tells him that she will see him in at least four minutes. Kagami and Adrien both jump out of their cars, unaware that Argos is watching them from the roof of the school. In the Monarch’s lair, we see Gabriel in bed powered by kwami energy. Nathalie is seen operating the controls. He begins to increase in strength, and as he does so, the cataclysmic burns begin to disappear. But the machine begins to fail, so he returns the marks on Gabriel’s chest. Gabriel screams in pain with Roaar and says it’s not nice to steal someone else’s power. Kaalki says that it is impossible to cure the cataclysm and Gabriel claims that all he needs is time to get Ladybug and Cat Noir’s miraculous. Gabriel also says that once he has the Miraculous, all he needs to do is make a wish to heal himself, Natahlie, and bring Emilie back. Tomoe then says that he forgot about their deal. He says he won’t let anyone like Marinette or Félix put a glitch in their plan. Gabriel gives Tomoe, Felix’s device that he used in Risk.
Adrien and Kagami are walking out of fencing class when they see Marinette on her scooter and tell Adrien that they should tell Gabriel that they are a couple. Marinette joins Adrien at his house. They walk into the kitchen to find Gabriel making pancakes for a snack. Adrien says he has to tell him something. Gabriel orders Adrien to leave and go upstairs, to which Adrien argues. Gabriel says he is his father and asks him to go to his room. Adrien reluctantly goes upstairs and stands by the door as Plagg says they almost had to endure another batch of pancakes. Adrien says he should be downstairs with Marinette, but that he can’t disobey his father. Marinette finishes her conversation with Gabriel and replies that she could have anything she wanted, but not with Adrien. After a heated argument, Gabriel gives Marinette two options: 1. She eats the pancake and has everything but Adrien or 2. She has nothing at all. Marinette chooses option 2 and leaves the kitchen with Gabriel following her. As she approaches the front door, she glances at Adrien’s bedroom door and runs over to tell him that she loves him and will never leave him.
Kagami talks to her mother and tells her that she and Adrien are no longer a couple. Argos then lands on Tatsu and begins eavesdropping on them. Tomoe points to Kagami’s family crest and says that it shows her behavior. Argos then cuts through the roof of the car using a handheld fan and kidnaps Kagami. Tomoe then senses a peacock feather, opens a secret compartment containing several alliance rings, and communicates with the Monarch. Monarch uses Kaalki, teleporting his mega-akuma and akumatizing Tomoe into Matagi Gozen. He then imparts the powers of Pretense, Multiplication, Migration, and Action. Matagi-Gozen then grants herself the power of super scent to follow Argos’ trail. Argos takes Kagami to the Eiffel Tower, detransforms, and begins talking to her while chastising him for his lack of social skills and for taking her against her will. While apologizing and promising to never do it again, Félix assures her that he doesn’t want to hurt her, but to protect her from her mother and also because he feels the two have so much in common since the last time they saw each other. her. Matagi-Gozen finds them when Ladybug and Cat Noir also arrive. Félix transforms and jumps off the tower with Kagami. Matagi-Gozen creates copies of himself and distributes them throughout Paris. After a brief battle, Cat Noir hides in the sewers while Argos and Kagami hide in an alley where he suggests that he leave her to calm her mother down and save himself, but Argos refuses to leave her, Kagami tells him that he can free himself and she gets outside where she is spotted by one of Matagi’s clones trying to hit her daughter with Venom-charged arrows, but Argos jumps in the way and blocks them with his fan, leading Kagami away again, ripping off the fan once he is safe again. and spreads its feathers and scent all over Paris, much to Matagi’s anger.
Inside the sewers, Kagami suggests that Félix create sentimonsters to get them out of there, only for him to immediately (and politely) decline and refuse to tell them so. With fighting no longer his priority, Félix says his priority is protecting those he cares about and helping them find meaning in their existence. He also points out that he doesn’t like creating beings for selfishness only to destroy them later (since he already had that experience in Emotion). Moved by his compassion, Kagami asks if he’s talking about himself as well, only for Félix to say that he’s actually talking about both of them. Ladybug and Cat Noir catch up to them and order Félix to release Kagami and release the Peacock Miraculous to them. Kagami stops them and defends Félix (which surprises him) saying that he is no one’s prisoner and Félix is not her enemy and is like her: she doesn’t know how to express herself and that everyone is wrong about him, including herself as she smiled at him. Félix, touched that she came to his defense, smiles back. Equally surprised and confused by this turn of events, Cat Noir wordlessly asks Ladybug if she understood what just happened, only for her to reply that she’s not sure anymore.
Matagi Gozen catches up with everyone and orders everyone to give her their Miraculouses. While Ladybug and Cat Noir protect Felix and Kagami, Ladybug realizes they can help them and decides to trust Felix. Trusting them, Félix transforms back into Argos and escapes while Kagami helps Ladybug defeat Matagi Gozen. After restoring everything back to normal, Ladybug gives Tomoe a magic spell so that it can protect her from being akumatized by the Monarch (not knowing that she is working with the Monarch). Ladybug and Cat Noir punch her as she points out that they let Felix escape the Peacock Miraculous as Ladybug says she hopes they won’t regret it. Tomoe calls Monarch and tells him that their plan went perfectly and they failed in the end, only for him to say that Kagami is the reason their plan failed. As Kagami gets into the car, he confronts his mother and tells her that he can’t let her control him and that following your heart is not weakness. Tomoe points out that she was wrong about Kagami and that she doesn’t fit her family’s ambitions. He also considers her a disappointment when he orders her to hand over her family’s crest ring, claiming she is no longer worthy.
